Students of all ages and abilities are welcome – we work through repertoire at a pace to suit each individual pupil. I believe my dynamic and charismatic teaching approach, coupled with a warm, approachable persona encourages pupils to continually achieve and further their piano playing abilities.

The majority of my students have piano lessons on a weekly basis, with a couple seeking longer sessions every other week. It is completely up to you, the pupil, how often you would like to meet for lessons and for how long, although if you’re unsure and are hoping to seek advice, I’m happy to offer my professional opinion on the matter.

I tend to teach pupils at my home in Southampton; the familiar setting offers a calm, relaxed atmosphere for my pupils to learn piano, with all my teaching materials at hand. Some pupils prefer to have lessons at their own homes, and whilst I’m happy to travel, an additional charge is included to cover my travel time and expenses – I’m happy to provide a quote for this in advance.

I also offer lessons in music theory, composition and analysis for those pupils who wish to study further theoretical aspects as well as performance. Similarly, I teach GCSE and A-Level Music courses for students looking for further support in gaining the appropriate grades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Students of all ages and abilities are welcome – we work through repertoire at a pace to suit each individual pupil. I believe my dynamic and charismatic teaching approach, coupled with a warm, approachable persona encourages pupils to continually achieve and further their piano playing abilities.

Do I have to do grades?

Every pupil is different; I tailor the course of my teaching to suit the preferences of each individual. Playing for enjoyment is at the heart of my teaching so lessons are flexibly built around your personal musical tastes and aspirations. Whether you prefer to pursue the attainment of grades, or would rather explore and achieve in other popular musical styles, I am more than happy to oblige!

Do you teach Children?

Yes! I have taught many children from the age of 5 upwards. Shorter weekly lessons tend to suit young children best, and if they’re a little shy or nervous to begin with, you are more than welcome to sit in on their piano lessons. Building my pupils confidence at the piano is a key part of my teaching methods.

Do I need to own a piano?

If you’re a beginner hoping to simply gain an interest for the instrument, then owning an acoustic piano at first isn’t entirely necessary. In order to further your progress however, you will need to have access to a keyboard instrument in order to practice. Digital pianos are an affordable option for beginners and certain makes/models can replicate the tone and action of an acoustic piano quite accurately. I’m very happy to provide advice on suitable makes/models if this is something you’re looking at.
